Summary

Silver Creek Evaluation Study by Stacy V. Gebbards, Fisheries Biologist 1963

Fish growth and production is closely correlated with conditions of aquatic vegetation in the stream.  Makes suggestions about how to do a creel study.  Conclusions: “the distribution and production of trout in Silver Creek is directly related to stream flows and abundance of aquatic vegetation”.  A reduction in average weights of trout in 1953 was attributed to the extensive removal of vegetation in the stream in 1952.  An increase in flows and aquatic vegetation in 1962 was followed by improved fishing success in 1963 (This could also be said of fishing and vegetation in 2004-05).   Whitefish are referred to as an ‘undesirable’ species.

1.    Concern over poor fishing success led to IDF&G investigations.

2.    A compilation of data gathered by fishery biologists and conservation officers since 1952.

3.    Includes: stream ecology (vegetation, stream flow and water temperatures), fish species composition, fishermen success, and regulations.
